    I’ve entered all the information into the template, and the information isn’t automatically generating on the green tab pages. I’m confused as to why none of the data is automatically developing on those pages when it automatically generates on the “order details” tab.

  • Hi there, we still work with MANUFACTURING – INVENTORY AND SALES MANAGER v2.0 and we’re so happy that we found it! Just one quick question:

    In the “Orders” tab, currently there are two custom columns (“CUSTOM COL 1” and “CUSTOM COL 2”).
    Can we just insert a few additional custom columns by ourselfs without breaking anything in the file?

  • Hello! I am trying to determine how to make inventory adjustments of raw materials due to breakage, loss, or defects. For example, having 1000 glass bottles in inventory. I manufacture 750 products using this glass, but after completion, due to breakage and a few defective bottles, I only have 200 left. According to the raw material inventory in the spreadsheet, I should have 250 left. How do I make a -50 adjustment to the current inventory to make it line up with actual?

    • Currently, you will have to enter a dummy sale order with 100% sale amount discount to consider it as loss.

    can you tell me how to add two more custom columns in the invoice sheet that woud reference to a two other custom columns on the order details sheet? With the same functionality of the already build in custom columns on those two sheets.

  • I just purchased the manufacturing and inventory spread sheet and none of the cells contain formulas for calculations and there are no drop down cells as shown in the videos. It is essentially a a static group of cells without any functions.

    i got MANUFACTURING – INVENTORY AND SALES MANAGER v2.0, but i want to know how to make the material stock since i bought material in MT. and manufacturing in KG.
    for example: water tank 1000 us/gallon total weight is 90kg and have 3 layer’s first layer is 50kg, second layer 17kg & third layer 23kg & we have another like 1000 us/gallon total weight is 103kg and have 4 layer’s first layer is 50kg, second layer 14kg, third layer 17kg & forth layer 22kg.
    please let me know about this and how to add them to the program so i can know my stock after manufacturing.

      You will have to convert the MT to KG during the time of purchase or you will have to convert the KG to MT in Manufacturing details tab. For ex.,
      Manufacturing details
      Product A – Layer 1 – 0.05 MT
      Product A – Layer 2 – 0.017 MT
      Product A – Layer 3 – 0.023 MT

    I am using v2 of the template. I need to add additional columns to the products (PRODUCT ID#), and raw materials (RAW MATERIALS ID#, SUPPLIER, SUPPLIER ID#) sheets without disrupting existing formulas. I then need the manufacturing_details sheet to pull the product/raw materials ID# rather than the product/raw materials name. How can I do this?

    I have the V2 of the template, but when I place any type of order MFG, SALES or PURCHASE none of the inventory levels are updating. I have tried using the refresh button as you suggest but this doesn’t seem to be making any difference. I am desperate to get my system up and running as I am spending hours updating everything manually in another set of spreadsheets. please can you help.

  • How would I track batch numbers associated with the raw materials into a specific product? Every new order of raw materials would have a different batch number and I would need to know which batch I used to make a specific product in case of recall (for example)?

      The template does not track the raw materials used to a specific order. If possible, you can use the custom column in Order Details to record the batch number of raw materials used in a Sale or Mfg order. It has to be manually entered.

    Still we are so happy about your fantastic Excel solution, thanks again!

    Just one question. We are using scenario 1 (not holding finished goods). There are some materials created and used as raw materials in finished goods, but we also sell these materials directly.

    We could enter sales orders as negative purchase orders for raw materials sold, but we don’t like this solution.

    Is there a smooth way to handle this? Or do we have to duplicate this materials in order to build up a bill of material (manufacturing_details)?

    As a test we tried to add the raw material with the SAME KEY (material number) also in the sheet “products” and entered it in the “manufacturing details” where now product and raw material has the same key (material number). It seems that this works, that would be great if this is the solution.

    What do you think, is this the way how we could handle the sales of raw material without running into issues?

    • Thanks for using the template.
      You are correct. Adding the raw material (RM) as a Product (RM – Product) is the recommended solution. In the Manuf details sheet, 1 unit of RM is needed to make 1 unit of ‘RM – Product’. So, when you sell 1 unit of ‘RM – Product’, the raw material RM will reduce in inventory by 1 unit. I like to name them differently for easier identification.

        We use material numbers as identifiers (keys of the materials) and we would like to avoid having two different numbers for the same physical item (one for the item as raw material and another for the same item as finished product).

        If we understand correctly we can do this with the same key (material number) without confusing the Excel solution? 1 unit of item4712 (as raw material) is needed to make 1 unit of item4712 (as product)?

  • I recently purchased the Manufacturing inventory & Sales Manager template. Can I add additional columns to the “Raw Materials” worksheet so that I can capture/populate “Unit of Measure” and “unit cost” data without affecting the integrity of my data.

  • hello,
    I have this purchased this template, but I have only one issue. When manufacturing, the raw material used may differ to the amount set depending on the daily issues face. The difference is normally minimal but how do i incorporate this in my calculations. The finished good also will have some damaged goods how do I do that also. Looking forward to your soonest reply

      We have to create a purchase order for raw material and enter negative quantity in the order to reduce raw material from inventory due to any issues faced/lost.
      Similarly, We have to create a sale order for finished products and enter negative quantity in the order to reduce product inventory due to any issues faced/lost.

  • Hello, i have purchased the Manufacturing – Inventory and Sales Manager – Excel Template which i believe will add a lot of positive value to my business, my questions are below:
    1. i noticed that, when i make a sale/MFG order, the inventory of raw material doesn’t refresh, meaning the quantity still the same as opening balance.
    2. i am doing carpenter job, therefore most my raw material is ply wood (122X244) so one piece of plywood can be used in different products, so how can identified number of units in raw material sheet.
    3. since i am using different cutting machines such as CNC,laser machines small, laser machines big,etc. Is there a way to have add coloumn in manufacturing sheet to identify which machine will be available based on number of operated hours required.

      1. When a new sale/mfg order is placed, the inventory should update, provided the Expected Date is current. Inventory changes based on Expected Date and not Order date. Please check Expected Date.
      2. It depends on how much of the plywood is used as raw material for each product. If you can make 10 units of product A with 1 plywood, you can enter 0.1 unit of plywood as raw material for the product A. If you can make only 5 units of product B, then you enter 0.2 unit of plywood is raw material for product B.
      3. You can add a column, but I am not sure how machine availability can be factored in. How are you planning to incorporate that?

  • I purchased the template and have used it for two days. I did a lot of test on every tag especially on ORDER_REPORT and RAW_MATERIALS and RAW_MATERIALS, but no matter what type of orders I inputted, the inventory does not update automatically. All the information needed were inputted and I did not touch the fields that I should not touch (in green color). I also tried “Refresh”. However, no any change happens on inventory (RAW_MATERIALS or MATERIALS_REPORT). What steps did I miss? I assume the template is smart and I do not need to worry about inventory level. And this was the major purpose I purchased this template. Thanks.

  • I am having a problem on the Order Details page. After creating a purchase order on the Orders page I open the Order Details page and select my purchase. When I try to select the item order which should be one of my Raw Materials, the drop down displays my Products. I have spent some time debugging this and found that the formula in the Product Category is 273 characters long. According to the Excel information I found on the web, the maximum length of a formula is 256 characters. I am using Office 365 so I need to make this formula shorter. I can do this by changing the Order column heading s for Raw Material Name and Raw Material Category shorter but I am not sure if these column headings are used elsewhere. I do not want to fix one problem to just find another. Do you have a list of all the formulas and where they are used? A list of the named ranges and where they are used would be very helpful too.

    I bought v2.0 a while ago, now I really start working with it. It’s such a fantastic tool, thanks again for this great piece of work!

    May I ask a question? Since I’m importing raw materials, I have different cost for each order (e.g. product costs from the supplier, shipping, import costs, duty) and I also need to convert currencies.

    To know the final costs of a raw material, I need to collect these costs for each order, but I don’t want to have a separate EXCEL file for collecting these information.

    Now I wonder if I just could add more colums into the “orders” worksheet for entering and keeping these additional costs per order, what do you think?

  • Hi…I just purchased the Mfg_Inventory_and_Sales manager. It is very useful.
    I got one question.

    Currently the column “RAW_MATERIALS.RAW MATERIAL NAME” is propagated to column “RAWMATERIAL_REPORT.RAW MATERIAL” .
    I would like to add a new column call “RAWMATERIAL_REPORT.RAW_MATERIAL_DESC” which propogate from “RAWMATERIAL_REPORT.RAW MATERIAL DESCRIPTION”.

    How can I do that?

      Steps to add:
      1. Unprotect the ‘Raw Material Report’ sheet using password provided in the ‘About’ sheet.
      2. Insert a column after column A in the ‘Raw Material Report’ sheet.
      3. Copy the formula from cell A4 and paste in the newly created column B cell B4.
      4. Edit the formula in cell B4 and replace reference to ‘raw material name’ with ‘raw material desc’.

      Please note that the formulas will not appear when no data has been entered in the table. Once you enter data in the input cells, for example, A12, then the formulas will appear. This is just how Excel works by default with tables.

    • You can enter the appropriate purchase and sales orders to update inventory. Purchase orders to increase inventory levels and sales orders to reduce inventory levels.

      • This method works when updating the inventory levels of finished goods but what about updating the inventory levels of raw materials?

        I added the raw materials as products and sold some units of that product but this doesn’t seem to work for my goal to reduce the inventory level of a specific raw material.

        • Oh well, I found a way to reduce or increase raw material. I adjusted the purchase orderdetails and reduced or increased the units I purchased from my supplier.

          • Raw material inventory will be increased by placing purchase orders of raw materials. When products are manufactured or sold, the raw materials (needed to manufacture those products) are reduced automatically from inventory.

  • I am interested in buying the manufacturing-inventory-sales manager template. But I have a few questions to check if it suits my needs

    1. Can we add new formulae?
    2. Once the Raw material order is received, I need to track raw material consumption by production dept and also the number of finished products produced on a daily basis. Also we r not assuming all products made are sold. How can I handle that
    3. I will not be using the invoice feature as we have another software that does it.Will that be fine?
    4. I want to add reason column with drop down for purchase returns and sales returns..Is that possible
    5. I will be implementing it at a production centre and then they would manage it. Would there be any license issues??

      The user can edit the template as needed, as password for unlocking will be provided. You can add new formulae. It depends on the type of formula and user’s Excel experience. Template is completely unlockable.
      Current inventory of raw materials and finished products are automatically calculated. Product sales is separately tracked.
      Invoice sheet can be ignored if you don’t need.
      Adding columns can be done by the user.

    I have bought the excel file and so far so good.
    However, I’m having a problem when I enter the data for manufacturing details.
    I have entered the data for raw material formula and manufacturing detail but in the column of raw material in order details, it is showing it as 0.

  • Hello, I just bought your product yesterday. It is really good and I appreciated for your work. I found this problem the invoice has only 1 page with 40 lines so when I try to purchase more than 40 raw materials I do not have the second page of my invoice.

      The template limits the invoice to 1 page and 40 rows. Is it possible for you to split the order to 2 separate orders?

  • Hello, I just purchased your spreadsheet and it looks great. I have input test data and I get the same alert pop up 2 times when trying to run the sales report.

  • Hello,

    This is a simple solution and it works great for the business inventory I have to keep track of. I bought the full version and love it. I did run into a problem when I have an individual item that is manufactured as a single unit. Then it is packaged in a case of 12. We sell both individual units and cases. So when I want to enter in a new manufacture order I enter in the desired number of cases (20 cases) as well as the desired number of units (10 additional units) on separate lines. For some reason it then double counts my final goods both as units and cases. Is there an easy fix?

      The template does not support the same product being sold in individual units and cases. We can enter it as two separate products where one is measured in cases and other is measured in units. This will work as long as we don’t sell partial cases. Please let me know your feedback.

    In our plant we co-pack for many clients and I would like to know how to handle raw materials that belong to the client and other materials are from us and some of this materilas are common for more than one product.
    On the other hand how to manage the inventory of a product that can have two or three presentation, but they are modify after produce

      1) The template does not differentiate on where the raw materials come from. If you enter all purchase of raw materials as purchase orders and all sales as Sale orders, then the inventory should automatically calculate.

      2) Please explain what 2 of 3 presentations mean. Please provide examples and email the file if possible.

      2 reasons for issues with drop down

      1. The entries were not entered inside Excel tables. For example, when the template is opened, in the Products sheet, the table data starts from row 6. Please enter product names from row 6, then row 7 and so on.

      I have an article that explains the Excel tables https://indzara.com/faq-items/introduction-excel-tables-data-entry/ that might be useful if you are new to Excel tables. You can check if you have entered data inside the tables.

      2. If the above step is taken care of, the other reason is that the drop downs only work inside Excel tables. For example, when the template is opened, in the Manufacturing Details sheet, the table data starts from row 7. So, in row 7, the drop downs work. In row 8 drop downs will not. But once when you enter any text (and press enter) in cell A8, then row 8 becomes part of the table. Now the drop downs will work in row 8.

      Invoice needs only Order Number as entry at the top. The products populate in the invoice automatically as the information is taken by the template from the Order Details sheet.

  • This template is very useful and customer service has been EXCELLENT.

    Question: Can I enter information in the Orders sheet and not in the Order Details sheet? For example, I want to use the order sheet to track hours of prep work on days when there is no manufacturing, sales, or purchases, so I would not enter any information on the Order Details on those days. I would not enter anything in Column A of Orders.

      Can you please explain the purpose of entering hours or prep work in an Orders sheet? How is that connected to orders? If you need to track, you can add a new sheet and enter that information there.

      Any information related to orders can be entered in Orders sheet. Order Number (column A) is a required field. Please do not leave it blank.

  • Just purchased Mfg template. I created 3 test partners.
    When I try to enter an order, partner drop-down only shows first partner.
    What am I doing wrong? (Data refresh & save/close/reopen has no effect.)

    Also, it is not clear how to use this to manage production. If we produce 10 finished products from raw materials, how do we show the finished goods inventory increase and the raw materials decrease? Ie: what do we do to show that production has occurred, independent of sales.

      It appears that some of the partner data is not inside the Partners table. Please reply to my email with file w/ data and I will be able to confirm.

      Please ensure that the the product is set to ‘Hold as finished goods’ in the Products sheet first,
      When a manufacturing order is entered, product inventory will increase and raw material inventory will reduce accordingly. When a sale order is entered, product inventory will reduce. When a purchase order is entered, raw material inventory will increase.

  • i have bought your manufacturing and sales template. i have some peculiar problems using it like i have a sales order for 120 tons spread across whole year. I need to dispatch 10 tons every month to my customer. How should i create invoice of 10 tons of quantity from a single sales order of 100 tons every month. Also as my invoice gets created, quantity of available stock should automatically be reduced by 10 tons or whatever specified quantity. Can you send reply to my email id paras_n_u@yahoo.co.in

  • Hello, I just purchased the template and I entered raw material recipe for a products and I was hoping I would just have to order the finished product and all the raw material would be automatically calculated. In addition, I needed to link every raw material to a supplier
    example: ShakeA = 1 banana + 10 blueberries + 2 apples
    I would order 4 x ShakeA and the template would calculate 4 bananas + 40 blueberries + 8 apples
    Automatically
    Supplier1 would get a purchase for 4 bananas
    Supplier2 would get purchase for 40 blueberries and 8 apples

    (The purchases to our suppliers would consider our inventory levels)

    Is that something you can help us with ?

    • Thanks for purchasing.
      When a sales order is placed, raw material needed for that would be automatically reduced.
      To allow any amount of raw materials to be purchased by the business, this purchase order is left as data entry by the user. However, to help with that data entry, automatic calculation of raw material needed to fulfill a specific order would be useful. This is in the roadmap for next version.
      Suppliers being different is a little tricky and it needs to be addressed with some extra development. I will follow up by email. Thanks.

  • Hi, I just purchased Mfg Inventory and Sales Manager V2.01. I was previously using your free version. I was wondering if you had a suggestions as to how to keep track of lot numbers of the finished goods. We sell medical products so it is important. For example, I might have the same Product Name and have different quantities of different lots (i.e. Product #4-0448 Qty 50 Lot# B1212, Product# 4-0448 Qty 75, Lot # C2750). I was able to add a column under Tab (Orders and Inventory) next to the quantity to enter lot numbers going in and out. I could then “back into” the number of units left of a particular lot number but I only used it for a couple months and there wasn’t a lot of data. Any suggestions?

    • Thanks for purchasing. When is a ‘lot number’ assigned? Does it refer to the manufacturing order or the storage location? Please clarify. We could add a column in the ORDERS sheet to note the Lot number. Then we would need to pull that into the ORDER DETAILS sheet. Then, we need to use pivot table or formulas to calculate anything based on that field.

  • Hi, I just purchased your template and am having an issue with it. On the Products sheet, Column F (Hold Products As Finished Goods?) has data validation which will only allow for “YES” to be entered and not “NO”. Please advise how to fix this as I will have a mix of finished goods and unfinished goods. Thank you.

      After entering any data, please refresh data from the DATA ribbon as explained in the product page. The calculations will get updated immediately.

      Please correct me if I am not understanding your question correctly. If Product A can be manufactured in-house using purchased raw materials and the same Product A can also be bought from another vendor, then the two scenarios use different ‘recipes’. In such a case, it has to be entered separately as two separate products.
      When you purchase a product (let’s say Product B) from vendor and sell as it is (i.e., retail), then you would enter that product recipe as 1 unit of Raw Material B = 1 unit of product B. In your purchase orders, you will purchase Raw Material B. In your sale orders, you will enter Product B.

  • I purchased your manufacturing inventory sales manager template. I have been looking for a template like this for many months. It certainly beats the 1,000s of dollars I have been quoted to have a new computer software installed. I have a pretty good knowledge and understanding of excel, but I do not possess the skills necessary to build this program on my own. Using it however is pretty simple.
    There is more then enough information to be fully able to run your manufacturing business using this spreadsheet. My only recommendation (which I have done on my own) is to insert costs so you are better able to know what is the dollar amount that you currently have available in your inventory.

  • Sir, your template is great. But I am facing some problems. I will elaborate this by giving an example. Suppose, I created a sales order of 4500 pieces/ year to one of my client but i am not sending the complete order together. I am sending parts monthly, based on how much I produce. Now I don’t know how to keep a track of the number of pieces I already sent and how many left to deliver. I want that on the same sales order that was made for 4500 pieces, i create different invoices of how much quantity i produce but whenever I put sales order on invoice, it shows 4500 pieces on quantity column but actually i want to send only 900 for time being and also i want the remaining balance to be shown on excel sheet on that sales order number. Please help me on this as soon as possible. or modify my template if possible.

  • Hi, I have a small manufacturing facility where I make fishing jigs, I purchased this spreadsheet today and am currently importing all the data into it. However I have a question on handling “consumables” such as spray paint, rags and propane. I use some small portion of all these items in manufacturing however it is very difficult to track exactly how many pieces you can make with 1 spray can. or 100 pounds of propane. do you have any advice on this? I want to purchase all of my materials through this spreadsheet so as to keep my accounting all in one place. If I simply have to track them separately that is acceptable I simply thought I’d inquire.

      Please try this suggestion and let me know whether this works.
      Enter each consumable as a product and also as a raw material. In the Manufacturing details, say one unit of spray can raw material leads to one unit of spray can product. Then, enter a purchase order for spay can’ raw material. This will increase inventory. Enter a sale order for spay can product (and enter price as 0) whenever you run out of that spray can. This will reduce the inventory of spray can inventory (as desired). Your cost of purchasing will be factored in. Your Sales amount will not be inflated (and thus accurate) since we put 0 as the selling price. Only downside is when you see sales quantity, it will include spray can sales. Please make sure to remember this while interpreting sales quantity.

  • I am looking for a inventory control management which can track the raw material lot number associated with the assembled finished product lot number.

    The system should be able to generate the production order using all the assembling parts and generate the finish product lot number.

      The template has fields for billing address and shipping address. In addition, the Partners sheet has two custom columns available (in blue color). You can use those two fields to store any partner information. Then, in the invoice, you have the options to display them if you would like.

  • How do you handle semi-finished goods? I have an assembly with a list of raw materials that I need to build ahead of building the product. This assembly then becomes part of the materials list for the product. (I know this is not a lean approach but I’m forced to do so).

    I build the assembly, consume the raw materials needed for the assembly and store it. The assembly needs to be inventoried like all other raw materials. When the final product is built, the assembly needs to be consumed like all other raw materials.

    I love the template. I’m wondering if you could perhaps help me modify it to serve our specific needs.

    We don’t want to track finished goods inventory through excel. we have software for that. We actually send raw materials to contract manufacturers across the country and they assemble and return finished goods to us. We would like to use a version of this template to do the following:

    1. Track raw materials inventory at our various manufacturers to make sure a) they have enough material, and b)they are not being wasteful.

    2. Keep track of raw materials Purchase orders

    3. Aggregate all the info to have an accurate raw materials number for balance sheet.

  • I have a product which is made as follows:

    Buy 10 kgs of copper strip
    This strip is stamped into 1000 pcs copper lugs
    These 1000 pcs are assembled with 2000 brass terminals to make 1000 lug assemblies.

    Together 1 copper lug + 2 brass terminals = 1 lug assembly.

    Please let me know how to enter these details in the spreadsheet. I already bought your spreadsheet.

      Raw materials used: Copper Strip, Brass Terminals
      Manufacturing Details: One Lug Assembly needs (10 Kgs/1000) = 0.01 Kg Copper Strip and 2 brass terminals
